NERVOUS SYSTEMS

Nervous Systems is a GIF + Video Art series by Sarah Zucker, commissioned by PrintScreen Festival 2019 through a grant from Asylum Arts.

Nervous Systems is a psychedelic view of the Internet as the functional extension of the human nervous system. The series visualizes the progression from the primordial telecommunication of the natural world through mycelial networks, to the physical broadcast antenna of the human nervous system, into the Internet as the ethereal extension of humanity as it attempts to coalesce into a unified organism through its technology. 

The series merges the Materialist and the Mystical in considering the unseen messaging systems within and without.

MYCELIAL MESSAGES 

Evoking the similarities between the Internet and the “Wood Wide Web” used for communication in the natural world. The human nervous system mediates between the two.

NEURAL BROADCAST

Making the unseen signals of the nervous system visible as it extends itself beyond the corporeal body.

PINEAL PROCESSOR

The pineal gland, or third eye, functions as the epicenter of the nervous system and therefore the central processor of information sent and received through the human network.

SHADOW BODIES

Demonstrating the distortion of our light bodies as they emanate from our nervous systems out into the web, and how we grasp at these warped shadows in an attempt to understand the whole of the original being.

THE ORACLE OF WIFI

An Oracle for the Future Ancients bears the sacred symbol of omnipresent connection as she channels visions from the vapors.
